Beyond the Mist: Photography Series on Identity
In Beyond the Mist, I explore the fragile balance between authenticity and the façades we wear. This fine art photography series reflects on identity, masks, and the hidden layers of human connection.
In today’s society, we navigate through a constant stream of information, a dense fog that subtly shapes our perception of self. Social expectations compel us to adopt predefined roles, and in this process, our instinctive nature becomes subdued. We construct masks that allow us to adapt, but at the cost of distancing ourselves from authenticity.
The Metaphor of the Mist and the Mask
The mist in this series becomes both a metaphor and a mirror. It embodies ambiguity, fragility, and the blurred boundaries of human connection. Just like fog obscures vision, social pressures and external narratives obscure our true identity, leaving only fragments of ourselves visible.
The masks act as symbols of hidden emotions, of desires that remain unspoken, and of the multifaceted nature of human identity. Yet they are not only tools of concealment, they also open a path to introspection. By confronting these veiled figures, we are invited to look inward and reflect on what lies beneath our own façades.
Process and creation
For Beyond the Mist, I worked across different roles, creating the masks, styling the scenes, and capturing the photographs. Each image was carefully composed to merge surrealism with emotional depth, using veiled figures to represent the delicate layers of identity.
The series features models Marta García and Migui Tejada, who embody the ambiguity and vulnerability at the heart of the project. Their presence, blurred by mist and hidden behind masks, reinforces the tension between visibility and concealment.
