PREMIER: Contemporary Art Exhibition Inspired by Cinema

Contemporary art exhibition PREMIER in Amsterdam inspired by cinema, symbolism, and emotional transformation

I’m happy to announce my participation in PREMIER, the debut exhibition of KCDAM - Kunstcollectief De Achtergebleven Maker, taking place from 29 - 31 May 2026 in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

This contemporary art exhibition brings together twelve artists exploring cinema as a language of emotion, atmosphere, and perception, moving beyond narrative and film imagery.

The exhibition unfolds cinema as experience through colour, sound, memory, fragmented time, and psychological space. Rather than representing films directly, the works reveal what cinema feels like, immersive, symbolic, and emotionally layered. PREMIER also explores how cinematic thinking shapes contemporary art practice through fragments, atmospheres, and symbolic perception rather than linear storytelling.

My artWorks Presented for PREMIER (Inspired by The NeverEnding Story)

The NeverEnding Story (1984) film poster directed by Wolfgang Petersen
The Southern Oracle from The NeverEnding Story, symbol of transformation and inner passage in dark fantasy cinema

The paintings and ink drawings I present for this exhibition explore the door as a living symbolic threshold: emotional, psychological, and spiritual.

They are inspired by The NeverEnding Story by Michael Ende, adapted into film in 1984 by German filmmaker Wolfgang Petersen. The film became one of the defining works of 1980s dark fantasy cinema, capturing a unique atmosphere of mystery, imagination, fear, and transformation that deeply shaped my visual imagination.

My artworks reflect an inner journey shaped by fear, identity, and the release of control, where the door becomes a symbolic state of transition between the visible and invisible. Rather than forming a linear narrative, the works move through a continuous field of symbols:

  • deserts as silence, clarity, and emotional intensity

  • mirrors as confrontation with inner truth

  • masks as protection and archetypes of fear

  • keys as ambiguity, access, and uncertainty

These elements exist in a constant state of becoming, where transformation is always imminent but never fixed.
